The CSTC maintains 3 rustic alpine cabins in the Wells/ Barkerville area.
- These cabins are available for use by club members.
- Reservations are mandatory for overnight use.
- Attempted overnight use without reservations will result in being asked to leave by the party that did reserve.
- Reservations may be made by emailing Brent Hodgson, in advance, at rbhodgson@shaw.ca. He will reply with an email confirming the reservation.
Cabin etiquette requires that:
- Overnight users with reservations be prepared to accommodate daytime users for warm ups, lunch breaks etc.
- All users must leave the cabins in tidy condition for the next users. This includes dishes washed and put away, kindling and firewood prepared and in cabin, water emptied, floor swept etc. Users must pack out their trash. Users are responsible to bring their own lantern/ stove fuel (naphtha).
Backcountry cabin users should be aware that:
- They are entirely responsible for their own safety.
- Trails to the cabins are reasonably well flagged but may not be packed if there has been recent snowfall.
- Users should carry: a map, food, water, warm clothing and a flash light or headlamp.
- Mountain weather is notoriously changeable.
- Cell phones DO NOT WORK at the cabins.
- It is advisable that users leave a plan of where they are going and when they expect to return, with a responsible person.
If users have maintenance concerns or suggestions they should email the CSTC backcountry chair Bruce Self ( bself@goldcity.net )
The CSTC incurs significant expense and time to maintain these cabins and so financial support (i.e. memberships) and volunteer time is crucial if people want the cabins to continue to be available. Information on maintenance and wood cutting trips is periodically sent to all members. Members who use the cabins are strongly encouraged to participate. |
